I am not happy,
But I still smile,
I am stuck here,
In constant denial.

“Yes, I am fine”,
I smile and say,
I lie to your face,
So you go away.

I hide my face,
Behind this mask,
Keeping the lies,
Is no easy task.

I take it off,
You do not care,
And if I complain,
“Life is not fair”.

Call me a friend,
You do not even try,
Leaving me alone,
Leaving to die.
A lot of my life and my friend's lives...

I can relate to the masks too. It's something I desire to get rid of, yet, something that makes life bearable...Inner conflicts are always the most confusing

Yes, I certainly agree.
Our minds and inner thoughts are quite the enigma, making life slightly harder to understand.
To understand ourselves and sometimes others.
Sadly, putting a mask sometimes DOES help, but I find it the wrong choice.

Sorry for my horrible comparison, but putting a mask on is kind of like drinking, it is trying to get away from your problems in a none direct way, it hurts you, and worst of all, it doesn't actually help you in the long run.

One day you will lose your mask, I am quite positive of it.

:) I think it's close to going. I just hope others can remove theirs also.

I hope so too, and work towards it.
It means a lot when you care about a person,
And trying to remove their masks with them,
Is the best thing you can do~

I really hope you and everyone's masks will go away, one day. ^^

Incredible, I think we all wear masks at some time or another. Whether it's to hide our feelings of guilt, sadness, or even sometimes love. This poem is clear, has good rhythm and is something I can relate to. Thank you so much for saying so well what I have difficulty saying. Hug

I wear a 'mask' almost all the time, but i let a few people in, sometimes, it's very hard though.

This is a beautiful poem. It touched something in me. Thank you.

A lot of people wear or wore a mas at least once in their life, I used to wear won at a very bad time in my life...
But after letting a few people in, things changed and basically, I could finally take my mask off and turn it into who I am.

Thank you very much, and if it really did so, I've done my job well. Thank you.

I used to feel like that when I was depressed, for many years, especially when I was a teen at school.
But I no longer feel like that, there is no longer any need for me to hide my feelings, there is nothing to be ashamed of.
People who love you will accept your pain as they will accept your happiness, you don't have to cope with it alone. There is no nobility in that. You can be very surprised how understanding people might be, even complete strangers. Not everyone, but there are many who go through similar or went through similar experiences and feelings and they can show you their sympathy and support. But to get it, you will have to take that mask off, because usually it's almost impossible to see what you hide behind it. Even though I myself is very experienced and I used to do so myself for years, when my closest friends or even family felt like that, it took me very long to understand that somethings wrong, and in some cases they refused to let me in and show support.
You should open up to people you can trust, and they can lift you up from this place and make you feel better.

I wish you a happier year to come, and that you will no longer need any masks and will allow yourself just to be yourself. :)

On the other hand - the poem is well written, it flows well, very clear.

Everything you said there, I have learned.
Sadly, I have learned it the hard way.
I as well was depressed for a few years, which was the time where I wore my mask, and I did everything I tell people NOT to do.
I tried to cope alone.
I thought no one will understand or accept.
Basically, everything that is wrong in the situation.

After finally giving in, my best friend was a big part in getting me back together.
A few other friends around me as well all helped to eventually get me to be who I am now~

I am open to people now, every single one of them, even complete strangers.
As I said, this poem is about my depression years which are already long gone.

After that I kind of dedicated my life to help those who were in my situation... And it worked.
I found people who had depression or problems and helped them solve it, so they won't make the mistakes I did.

I wish you a wonderful year, darling, and that every single one of your dreams will come true, because a person as nice as you really does deserve such thing. ^^

I had almost similar experiences, and mistakes, and it was a long and hard journey, probably for us both.
It's very cool you try to help other people through, and it even better that you succeed in doing so. :)

Thanks :thanks: , that's very kind of you.

Everyone hides behind a mask. No one puts their hearts on their sleeves. We just don`t want to get really hurt...
Great poem. I love it! *smiles kindly*

No everyone hides behind a mask.
I, for example, did hide behind a mask, but no more.
I know the fear of getting hurt, but once you find the right people, it fades away.

Thank you. ^^
